On 7 April the Qattan Centre for the Child concluded Reading Week Activities, launched at the beginning of April and designed to encourage children to love reading.
The week comprised a series of cultural activities including storytelling using puppets, musicals and creation of a mural of the Arabic alphabet.
As part of the week’s events, the Centre also launched a campaign for the donation of books to libraries and schools in Gaza; in addition, it organised a literary evening entitled ‘April Blossoms’ where children from the Literature Club presented their literary work. The aim was to encourage their creative writing, and to familiarise them with the art of public speaking.
At the end of the Reading Week, QCC organised in partnership with Tamer Institute for Community Education a book launch for ‘Omar and his Friend Qamar’children’s novel by young writer Hani Bayari.
Around 800 children benefited from the Reading Week Events.
