On April 26, The Mosaic Rooms saw the close of the very successful exhibition Mogadishu: Lost Moderns. The exhibition was the first to explore Mogadishu through its architecture and urban environment and received extensive media coverage which included articles in Guardian Cities (here), The Architects Journal (here), a BBC Africa News interview (here) and a Time Out listing (here). April events accompanying the exhibition included a discussion by Somali archaeologist Dr Sada Mire, a literary evening with Somali novelist and poet Ubah Cristina Ali Farah and two film screenings, Notes for an African Oresteia and Sea Shell/Tree of Life. The accompanying cultural programme explored the rich cultural fabric of Somalia.

 

A new exhibition entitled Intervening Space: From the Intimate to the World opened at The Mosaic Rooms in May. The exhibition curated by aria (artist residency in algiers) is the first London group show of six contemporary Algerian artists. All six of the participating artist were in London for the private opening evening and a special exhibition tour with curator Yasmina Reggad. Many of the artists also gave talks at partner venues such as the Delfina Foundation, Iniva and Goldsmiths University. A panel discussion with leading regional experts Dr Hamza Hamouchene, Dr James McDougall and Imad Mesdoua cast perspectives on Algeria’s current political, social and economic situation.
