The Foundation launched, with co-funding from the European Union Cultural Grants Programme, its new nine-month project “Classic European Films in Translation” . The project will create a fully equipped , high-end video subtitling unit capable of capturing and printing Arabic subtitles onto professional video formats. The €106,000 project will include the acquisition of non-commercial educational rights to at least fifteen new titles of classic and contemporary European cinema, both fiction and documentary. Arabic-subtitled versions of these films will be produced on DVD and distributed to educational and community organizations, including the network of 46 school film clubs created by PAV and the numerous community cine-clubs (more than twentyfive to date) in Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria which have signed up to Shabaka , the Network of Arab Ciné-clubs managed by PAV. In addition, the project will commission or translate articles about the selected films and publish them in local newspapers. It will also continue to host the online discussion forum initiated by Shabaka .
