The Qattan Foundation is pleased to announce the successful completion of its collaboration with RESOLVE, an innovative architectural design collective, in hosting a series of three dynamic workshops titled "Tools for Solidarity." The workshops, which celebrated local knowledge and lived experiences of young practitioners, were held at the A.M. Qattan Foundation from the 16th -18th of May. Led by RESOLVE's unique design philosophy of "using the site as a resource," the workshops guided participants through a comprehensive journey encompassing mapping, site visits, design, and construction. By harnessing the power of local resources, the participants explored the potential for architectural expressions of solidarity that can resonate both locally and globally.

The workshops included:

  1. Emotional Mapping: Participants explored their emotional connections to their city and neighborhood through interactive mapping exercises.
  2. Site Visits + Brick Making: Participants led site tours, identifying local materials to create bricks and sculptures.
  3. Solid-making Tools for Solidarity: Participants constructed a D.I.Y pneumatic brick press using locally sourced scrap wood.

The Qattan Foundation is honored to have hosted the "Tools for Solidarity" workshop series and believes in the power of empowering young practitioners to shape their built environment. By encouraging local knowledge exchange and emphasizing the importance of sustainability, these workshops aligned with the foundation's mission to promote cultural development and social change.

The workshops were well-received by participants, who expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunity to learn and apply innovative design approaches that celebrate their local context and foster solidarity. The Qattan Foundation and RESOLVE extend their heartfelt appreciation to all participants, supporters, and collaborators who made the workshops a resounding success.
