On 17 August, The Nilin Teachers' Centre screened the film Memory of the Cactus, by Palestinian director Hannah Musleh, in the courtyard of Al-Khawaja Palace in Nilin. The event was held as part of the ‘Al-Midya: Story of the Scene and Memory of the Place’ project. A number of teachers, university graduates, as well as students of Al-Midya Elementary mixed School, Nilin School for Girls and Nilin School for Boys attended the screening.
Al-Midya project seeks to educate students on methodologies of historical research and develop their capacities in visual expression, by recreating the history of Imwas, a Palestinian village destroyed by Israel in 1967. The event featured a discussion around the semantics of the film’s title as a reflection of the village history.
