On 15 November, the Foundation held a workshop on the Child Cultural Centre in Jenin, which will be established by the Welfare Association in partnership with the A. M. Qattan Foundation and Jenin Municipality, and is funded by the Islamic Development Bank through the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
The workshop, which was supervised by writer Maya Abu Alhayyat and attended by a group of children from Jenin, aimed at identifying the needs and desires of children.
The workshop was preceded by another on 10 November, led by Wasim Kurdi, Director of the Qattan Centre for Educational Research and Development (QCERD) and Malik Rimawi, Head of QCERD’s Languages and Social Sciences Track. A number of children, parents and specialists in childhood, education and culture participated in the workshop, which focused on envisioning the Child Cultural Centre they aspire for, in terms of vision, values, nature of activities, and architecture.
The first of its kind in Jenin, the Centre is envisioned as a free experimental space working towards empowering different social groups, with a focus on children, to enable them to take part in the present social change. The Jenin Centre will adopt an integrative approach through a rich and inspiring programme that encourages children to become engaged in arts and science.
