(A.M. Qattan Foundation - 20/8/2019)

On Monday 19 August 2019, Leila Miqdadi al-Qattan Library organised a workshop at the A.M. Qattan Foundation that aimed to equip children with skills connecting visual arts to reading, to cultivate their passion for reading. The workshop was supervised by educator Maryam Zahran, with the participation of 15 children.

The workshop revolved around the skills necessary to reproduce children stories artistically. Participating children read and used the story entitled “The Rooster Who Went to His Uncle’s Wedding” published by the Educational Research and Development Programme of the A.M. Qattan Foundation. The children also engaged in activities which recreate and analyse the meanings within the story and represent them via illustrations and visual artistic forms. Children also compared their illustrations to the story’s illustrations to enrich the conversation on reading and producing children’s stories in new different forms. All to cultivate their love for reading and their story interpretation skills through illustration and handicraft.
