The Culture and Arts Programme (CAP) organised a workshop on 5 January for a select group of young artists, writers and others working in culture and the arts, to discuss CAP’s agenda for 2013, and in preparation for the annual review held in Jericho between 10-12 January. Participants looked back at the previous year, and made recommendations for the future.
The day opened with a lecture by writer Khader Hasan entitled, On the Crossroads: Palestinian Culture in a Changing World, which was followed by a contribution from writer Anton Shulhut entitled, Israelis and Palestinians: Where Next? The workshop also included a series of seminars on literature, performing arts, film, and visual arts.
Recommendations for the future included: proactively widening the network between arts and cultural practitioners; encouraging collaboration between practitioners; focusing on creating a community of readers; promoting children’s literature; supporting writers and making their works known to students; creating translation opportunities for writers; establishing and developing expertise in the film industry and in TV drama; and working on developing the fields of artistic and cultural criticism.
