On 21 September, the Culture and Arts Programme organised a lecture entitled, What the Japanese have Learned from the Palestinian Experience, given by researcher Aoe Tanami at the Foundation’s library. The lecture was attended by a number of artists, media representatives, and students who frequent the library.
In her lecture Tanami addressed the image of Palestinians among Japanese, and the differences she found between Palestinian and Japanese societies, based on her own experiences living in Palestine.
Aoe Tanami is a university lecturer in Japan. She has a BA in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic, and a Masters in Sociology and is currently pursuing further studies as a researcher in regional studies. Aoe is also the Founder of Midan: Solidarity Group for Palestinians, a voluntary organisation which raises public awareness of the Palestinian issue among the Japanese.
