The Qattan Centre for Educational Research and Development (QCERD) concluded, on 2 August, the ninth edition of its Drama in Education Summer School, held in Jerash, Jordan. 109 teachers from Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman and Lebanon attended the summer school, in addition to a number of supervisors from Palestine, Britain and Greece. Participants received 500 hours of training in six cumulative courses at three levels over a period of three years (2 courses in the 1st year, 2 courses in the 2nd, 1 course in the 3rd). The courses included an advanced supporting course in playwriting for the first time, led by British playwright Brian Woolland, and QCERD researcher Kifah Fanni.
The summer school activities started on 23 July and gave participants the chance to create their own dedicated space to drama in education, build theoretical and practical experience and use cultural resources in drama. The closing ceremony featured a presentation of certificates to students in all three levels and a number of play sketches produced by participants of the playwriting course.
