As part of a long-term plan to strengthen cultural exchange between the two institutions, the A. M. Qattan Foundation has today announced a $10,000 gift to The New Medina, a new centre for children and innovation in the coastal city of Sousse (Tunisia).
Omar Al-Qattan chairman of the Board of Trustees said: “This amount is a gift from the children of Palestine to the children of Tunisia in friendship and solidarity, and in humble recognition of Tunisia’s long support of Palestine and its people”.
The AM Qattan Foundation is one of the leading independent cultural and educational institutions in the Arab region and has been active in the fields of cultural and educational development since 1998. It directly funds and manages its programmes in Palestine, Lebanon and the UK and supports numerous other initiatives in the region where it has been gradually strengthening its partnerships. The Child Centre - Gaza, a cultural centre with a library, theatre, IT laboratory, art studio, science tinkering lab, and other facilities, will be the main conduit of collaboration with The New Medina; the collaboration will also include technical and programmatic support.
Housed in a refurbished traditional house in Sousse, The New Medina will be a multi-function site that includes The Little Dreamer’s Lab, a place to integrate knowledge and creativity in ways that nurture imagination, innovation and social good in an inspiring model for the region and beyond.
According to its co-founder, Tunisian anthropologist Soraya Hosni, “the holiday city of Sousse has been affected by an unprecedented level of unemployment following the attacks on foreign tourists. Tourist numbers have dropped by 70%. Children and young people are directly touched by this so we must continue to invest in tomorrow’s leadership even if the regional context is very challenging. For a new organisation like ours, the partnership with AM Qattan Foundation is of great importance because of their expertise in programme design and development for children.”
The New Medina is currently fundraising through this link.
