An annual research commission that embarks on a critical research topic relevant to the contemporary Palestinian cultural milieu. The programme takes the form of open call in certain years and also can be based on headhunting at certain times.  A researcher or a group of researchers are commissioned to conduct a largescale survey through various methods of data collection and several research methodologies. The research should largely depend on fieldwork and acquiring first-hand data.

The result of the commissioned research is printed in a book as part of a series that is entitled A. M. Qattan Palestine Cultural Series. The programme endeavours to utilise the material of the research and the book for further productions such as films, plays, academic articles, and exhibitions.
