The Foundation is seeking a motivated individual with exceptional management and leadership skills for the position of Deputy Director General. Following is the description of this position:
Nature of the position: Full time
Place of work: Ramallah
Line of responsibility: The Deputy Director General will report to the Director General (DG), and will have full delegated authority to act on his behalf in his absence.
Position overview
This is a significant leadership position for an experienced individual with a track record of managing large scale development programs. The ideal candidate will play a leading role in the strategic thinking of the Foundation as well as be detail oriented to ensure effective operations and programmes implementation and development. The Deputy Director General will be charged with overseeing the day to day management of the administration, human resources, facilities, IT, communications, income generating, and financial operations. S/he will support the Director General in overseeing programme implementation and development, public relations, partner and stakeholder relations, fundraising and business development. The Deputy Director General will partner closely with the DG, programme directors and senior staff to chart the Foundation’s future growth and strategic planning.
Main responsibilities
Foundation Management
- Partner with the DG and management committee members in developing the strategic plan and providing effective leadership, with emphasis on human resource and organisational development;
- Provide leadership and direction, and oversee day to day management of administration, human resources, facilities, IT, communications, income generating and financial operations to ensure best practices and adherence to the Foundation’s policies and procedures;
- Lead the formulation of the management annual work plan and budget and ensuring that indicators are set. Monitor its implementation, adherence to budget limits and ensure that indicators are met;
- Participate in recruitment, induction, mentoring, coaching, and evaluation of staff;
- Together with the DG and senior staff, actively participate in the Management Committee meetings, report to and participate in the annual, semi-annual and other meetings of the Board of Trustees, and assist in other reporting functions as needed.
Programme Management and Development
- Provide intellectual and collaborative leadership to support the development of best practice in areas pertaining to culture and education;
- Participate in programmes and projects review, analysis and development;
- Assist in developing the programmes annual work plans and ensure that performance indicators are set. Monitor implementation of the work plans to ensure that performance indicators are met. Enhance coordination, collaboration and knowledge dissemination between the Foundation’s programmes and units;
- Participate in the development of terms of reference for external evaluation functions and impact studies at the management and programme levels. Follow up on external evaluation processes, impact studies, and ensure implementation of recommendations
Partners/Stakeholders Relations
Support and partner with the Director General to:
- Build and maintain strong partner and stakeholders relationships;
- Represent the Foundation at conferences and with professional associations;
- Build good relations with public institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector;
- Lead fundraising activities, donor management, partnership development and related functions.
Qualifications
- 10+ distinguished years in a senior management position;
- First university degree in development management, business administration or related field. Advanced Masters in Management or similar qualification from a leading university is an advantage;
- Strong strategic thinking and understanding of progressive development theories and practices;
- Knowledge of development needs in Palestine, especially the culture and education sectors;
- Track record in delivering superior results, commanding respect and assuming leadership roles;
- Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks;
- Proven ability to work with efficiency, independence and flexibility;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse array of people;
- Track record in achieving excellence, with acute attention to detail;
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal and reporting skills;
